How do I know if my Psychologist and I are a good match?
A 20-minute no charge phone consultation allows for some time to ensure that your chosen psychologist is the best person to help you. Should you benefit from services beyond our scope of practice, we will assist in making an appropriate referral where possible.
Do my appointments need to be in the office?
The office is a comfortable environment to meet. It provides a relaxed setting that is conducive to therapy. Having said that, it takes time to transport (by car or transit), find parking or walk from the c-train, and return home. A second, more cost effective option may be to use phone or video conference. Based on your request, video conference can provide an encrypted, password protected option for counselling support. Although it lacks the personal connection of face to face sessions, it can be cost effective, flexible, and convenient.
What is the cost and how do I pay?
The typical cost per session is:
$235/60 minute for session in the office
$235/60 minute session telephone or video conference
Our usual practice is to provide an invoice after each session via email and issue a receipt that can be submitted for reimbursement from your benefits provider. E-transfer is the preferred method of payment after each session.
A sliding scale can be offered for those that are experiencing financial hardship given the latest challenges with community health concerns and the economic downturn. Your mental health is a priority with every effort made to ensure that support can be provided based on your personal situation.
How is my privacy protected?
Therapy services fall under the Personal Information Protection Act. Your information (including all written documents) are confidential. You can request access to your written records by providing a written request. Confidential information will not be released without your written consent (certain exceptions covered at intake).
Are these services covered by Alberta Health Care or my private benefits/health insurance?
Benefits coverage may vary by provider. It is important to check your benefits to ensure that you are covered for counselling support. We are registered psychologists, regulated under the Health Professions Act, our services may be covered for a specified limit under individual benefit plans. Please check with your provider.
Are appointments available on evenings and weekends?
Counselling hours are flexible and based on your needs. Days, evenings and weekends are available.
How long does it take to see improvements?
Counselling is individual and based on your unique needs. Having said that, we believe that meeting weekly to start, then gradually reducing the visit schedule to monthly is the best practice, achieves the best results, and is the best use of our time together.
